Back pain is the most common ailment among people now days.
Almost 80% of the people claim to have suffered from back pain at some point of their lives. What’s more alarming is that not only adults but children have also started to get pain in their back.
Back pain can be caused by many reasons.
The pain itself originates from muscles, bones, joints, nerves and other parts of the spinal cord. Wrong postures, weak back muscles, muscle strain or even slipped disk are all causes of back pain. Our back is divided into two major parts; the upper back and the lower back. While the upper back is the major portion of our body that has bigger back muscles and is quite stronger than the lower back which though being small has the bigger responsibility of supporting our upper body. An effective way to strengthen it is to exercise for your back regularly which is also an important part in back pain treatment.
Lower back is more submissive to back pains. This is due to the fact that the lower back or lumbar spine is always under constant use. Be it sitting or standing, twisting or bending the lower back supports the maximum body weight during any of these activities that cause a constant deal of stress on it. This stress can sometimes lead to a strain or a major injury.
There are various reasons that can cause a back to pain. The most common being a strain or also known as a pulled back muscle. This is caused when a back muscle is overused or overloaded and is overstressed beyond its limits. When this happens, it can lead to a possible injury or inflammation. Since our body also self heals itself up to a certain extent, during inflammation the muscle tissue tries to self repair itself while causing a lot of pain. This pain can be retained by applying a muscle rub or inflammation control cream and will take around a week before it completely heals. If the problem still persists it is advisable to see a doctor.
Apart from this an injury to the spinal nerves, bones or discs can also cause major back pain. The disc acts as a shock absorber preventing the spinal bones to rub against each other. It is like a cushion between the bones made out of connective tissue and lubricated in a fluid. Due to a sudden shock or a jolt the discs can slip outwards causing immense pain. It is a serious situation and needs to be looked at by a doctor. Discs become weaker along with age and the lubricating agent covering them starts to wither off.
